Petikan dari buku 'Islam At The Crossroads' - M.Asad
Setelah habis membacanya (nipis saja, 101 m/surat) - terus terlintas di hati saya - ...rugi kalau ada orang yang tak tahu dan tak baca buku ini!
Tajuk: Islam At The Crossroads
Penulis: Muhammad Asad (rahimahullah)
Apa kata penulis tentang buku ini?
"A plea to the Muslims of my generation to avoid a blind imitation of Western social forms and values, and to try to preserve instead their Islamic heritage which once upon a time had been responsible for the glorious, many-sided historical phenomenon comprised in the term "Muslim civilization".
Terdapat 7 bab dalam buku kecil ini -
The open road of Islam
The spirit of the west
The shadow of the crusades
About education
About imitation
Hadith and Sunnah
Conclusion
Saya ingin nukilkan sedikit dari bab ke 6 iaitu 'Hadith and Sunnah'. Beliau dalam proses menegaskan keperluan kita kepada Hadith. M.surat 90 dan 91:
"Our mind is unable, by virtue of its nature, to understand the idea of totality; we can grasp, of all things, their details only. We do not know what infinity or eternity means; we do not even know what life is. In problems of a religion resting on transcendental foundations we, therefore, need a guide whose mind possesses something more than the normal reasoning qualities and the subjective rationalism common to all of us. We need someone who is inspired - in one word, a Prophet.
If we believe that the Qur'an is the Word of God, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was God's Apostle, we are not only morally, but also intelectually bound to follow his guidance implicitly.
This does not mean that we should exclude our powers of reasoning. On the contrary, we have to make use of those powers to the best of our ability and knowledge; We must discover the inherent meaning and purpose of the commands transmitted to us by the Prophet.
But in any case - wether we are able to understand its ultimate purpose or not - we must obey the order".
